Ever since I was a child literature has been a major part of my world, predominantly in the form of novels. They have always been the gateway to new places, and usually much more interesting than what was going on presently. Therefore I have always thought of books in general as tools for entertainment, information, and therapy. However, this morning I was inspired to think beyond this view on a more sophisticated level. First of all, literature comes in various forms besides books, and as a whole represents much more than words on paper, but then again literature isn't even necessarily on paper. For example, I am currently experiencing "blogging," an entirely new form of expression for me. I'm not sure that I get the point or understand exactly what makes an effective blog. I think that there is a specific style and rhetoric that permeates the blog universe. I feel stuck in a essay/journal rut. In one day the class has left me with a plethora of new ideas to analyze, which inspired the title "Food For Thought."
I took this class because I have interest in the subject and am going to major in English. Now that I have been exposed to the curriculum and know the course objectives my own expectations are more specific; it is my desire to have insight on literary works and be able to share those thoughts deliberately and with eloquence. I also hope to attain a greater appreciation for literature since I have always been better at writing and tend to enjoy it more. I predict that this course will broaden many of my perspectives on literature, as well as solidify others.
